The much anticipated upgrade to the Satio phone has now been given both a network and SIM Free release date, the new Sony Ericsson Vivaz is a new curved design mobile phone that actually records video in HD quality and further improves on the features found in the recent Sony Satio model.
The Sony Vivaz offers a large 3.2 inch touch screen display alongside an advanced 8.1 mega pixel camera and plenty of multimedia features to keep the user entertained. Although not offering the huge 12 mega pixel lens of the Sony Ericsson Satio, the Vivaz makes up for this with its HD recording quality that is at least 1280 x 720 pixels at 25 frames per second, that is pretty impressive when you discover that it is also recording at 720p.
Other features include GPS, WiFi, 3.5G support, a 720MHz processor, an expandable memory and 5th edition Symbian S60 operating system. The Sony Ericsson Vivaz has now had its SIM Free release date confirmed as March 5th, the phone will be unlocked to all network operators so that the user can simply insert their own SIM card and continue using their existing service and mobile number and transfer any 'saved to SIM' names and numbers.
Vodafone have also now confirmed that they will be stocking the Moon Silver edition of the Sony Ericsson Vivaz from early March on pay monthly contract deals as well as hinting that they will also be introducing the Ruby Red edition which may well be a network exclusive for a limited time period.
Many of the latest smart phones have concentrated more on features and applications than the camera resolution, Sony Ericsson have always pushed the boundaries in this area with at least 3 of their current models offering 8.1 mega pixels and above whilst the likes of the flagship Nokia N900, HTC HD2 and Motorola Milestone all sport a 5.0 mega pixel unit.
Sony Ericsson's other advanced camera phones include the Sony Ericsson Aino, W995 and aforementioned Satio witht he new Xperia X10 on its way soon. In term of alternative handsets from other manufacturers, none really can compete when it comes to the quality of the camera, Samsung do have a 12 MP model called the Pixon 12 as well as the Samsung Tocco Ultra offering an 8 mega pixel lens.
The new Vivaz looks set to turn the fortunes around for Sony Ericsson after what can only be described as a difficult year, both their Aino and Satio models quickly developed software problems shortly after launch which have thankfully now all been rectified.
