Modern Advances In Technology And Ringtones

In the old days of land-bound telephones an electrical pulse sent through the wires and into your phone set off the mechanism that caused a bell to ring and alert you to the incoming call. This sound became so synonymous with the telephone call that it became a part of our language and culture. Such phrases as; "Give me a ring" and "Ring me up", became standard parlance for the telephone call. The ringing sound has even carried over into the world of wireless cellular telephones in the form of "ringtones".The modern mobile cell phone has the capability of playing a short digital sound file to alert the user to an incoming call. The first ringtones were simple monophonic sounds that could be buzzes, chirps, pings or other unique sound. The early ringtones were heavily influenced by the video games of the time. These first ringtones, while you could interchange them as you wished, could still only be programmed in to use one at a time.As cell phone technology grew, so did the sophistication of the ringtone. Polyphonic ringtones were developed using the MIDI (Musical Instrument Digital Interface) format. These new ringtones were capable of producing musical selections instead of mere alert sounds. Whether you preferred clips of classical or popular music or just interesting sound sequences huge libraries of ringtone sound files were soon available for your selection.Another new feature was introduced into the cell phones. It became possible to program in individual ringtones to play depending on the phone number initiating the call. With this advancement you could now not only distinguish your phone in a room of other cell phones but could tell who was calling from the individualized ringtone you had programmed for that person's phone number. Now modern ringtones have matured to the level of Truetone capability. Using a variety of different sound file formats you can use pieces of actual recorded music to create ringtones. Some popular formats are mp3 and WAV files while a few companies create specialized file formats for their exclusive use on their phone equipment. Most new cell phones, however, can use any popular format. Some new phones have the programs for excerpting snippets from song sound files built right into the memory of the phone. A growing business is to have a digital audio editor program online that can be used to create new ringtones and then charge a small fee to download the resultant ringtone to your phone. The new Apple iPhone is partnered with iTunes to provide not only downloadable music to carry with you on your multimedia capable phone but offers the use of a program to edit ringtones out of any music file you have purchased from them. The limit on the ringtone file for the iPhone is currently set at between three and thirty seconds with the capability of looping the sound indefinitely.Making the ringtone file from your own music file eliminates one of the few major dangers that can be associated with Truetone ringtones. With the increased computerization of the cell phone technology and the use of the same type of sound files, hackers have found ways to embed spyware and malware into mp3 files. They can use them against your phone in much the same way as they do your computer. Caution should be used in downloading any "free" ringtone. For both safety and the fun it can provide, it is best to use the available technology to create your own custom ringtones.

Tales From The IT Support Industry

Working in the London IT support for many years you tend to pick up a large number of anecdotes from others who work in London. It is only when you can get together with other IT support professionals that you find out about some of the funniest stories that people have accumulated during their careers. While we are professionals and know our stuff in the world of IT, it is still humorous when we get some of the stranger requests from business and domestic users in the London area. A classic story from the IT support industry comes from the days of diskks and diskettes, a method of data transfer which is pretty much non existent nowadays. Anyway, back in the days of disks a friend of mine was working in his London office when a woman came in requesting IT support help with a five inch disk in her hand asking for information to be retrieved from it. Unfortunately for the hapless user, she was behind the times somewhat and the office had been using 3.5 inch disks for some time. On being told this, and before anyone could stop her, she took a pair of scissors to the disk to 'cut it down to size' so it would fit in the drive. The IT support industry is especially full of humorous anecdotes, seemingly the majority of them in London. Another of my co-IT workers once told me story that has somehow found a place in the IT support industry hall of fame. During the eighties when computers were becoming popular in the financial district of London, this particular support worker was called by a man telling him that "his computer had frozen". The IT guy, rather jokingly stated that it was probably because the computer was cold. Understandably, after he had headed to see this user to fix the problem the IT support worker was flabbergasted to find that user had wrapped a jacket around the computer in order to keep it warm. At this point the IT guy couldn't help but laugh. Those poor IT support technicians who work in the phone response centres probably have the worst time of it in terms uneducated users. Phone service are extremely profitable though, especially in the London area where my friend managed to make a mint with a company that sent out technicians and provided phone support for business and domestic users all around the London region. Some of the anecdotes he picked up along the way were also pretty valuable. One of his workers had a caller who phoned in a state of panic claiming that the internet was under attack. The caller had apparently already called the London emergency services to report his findings and they had said to phone an IT support company instead. After calming the caller down the worker got to the bottom of the problem; the caller had inadvertently turned off the cookies after installing a new internet browser meaning that his internet connection would not work properly. A swift resolution was found and the somewhat sheepish caller then said to forget about the supposed attack. The phone operator is inundated with rather pointless calls; a great call that has gone down in history came in asking the IT support worker where the computer's other cup holder was. The rather bemused operator asked sarcastically about "the other cupholder?" wondering about the sanity of the caller at the other end of the line. After the caller said it was the one that comes out of the PC it all became somewhat clearer. Once the technician had recomposed himself he told the caller that this was not a cupholder and was in fact used for inserting CDs into the computer. With great stories like this I don't think anyone will be able to say that the IT support industry is a boring one to work in. There are many in the business who often have to stifle their laughter at the enquiries of users. That said, it is a serious industry that provides a valuable service to computer users who are stuck with a problem.

What Are Authority Web 2.0 Websites?

Government's ability to protect their private information, have increased congressional scrutiny and expectations for compliance with federal privacy laws and regulations. Protection of the Government's vast accumulation of personal information begins with the responsibility of federal employees at all levels and in all positions. Government officials such as FCC Chairman Michael Powell are using weblogs to communicate directly with the regulated community. The government of Canada has over 30 RSS feeds available , along with a helpful page of explanations. Government science and technology. Science makes available reliable information resources selected by the respective agencies as their best science information.Government organizations are beginning to use high-speed wireless data networks (such as 3G cellular technology and Municipal Wi-Fi) to connect in-the-field and mobile workforces to agency information and applications in real time. The challenge is to do this securely while minimizing the impact on the user experience.Information life cycle management is another key concern. They are working with the CIO to establish the policies that would support the virtual library, and its archiving function. Information on all grants, which can be word searched, is included in the Agency Management Information System. Information Extraction and Transport (IET) proposes a unique application of bio-scientific methodologies providing rigorous, repeatable, and quantifiable functionality to assess, monitor, and predict the behavior of attack agents and the health of computer networks.Information technology will be used to monitor all Internet use and block access to some Web sites clearly not in keeping with this policy. Individual City technology resource users will be notified if their attempts to access blocked sites appear on corporate Internet logs. Information about the evaluation strategy, process, and methods should also be provided. What evidence will be sought to inform the progress towards project goals and why is this of value? Information specific to the changes in this release are captured in this document. Links to all of these are provided in the "Resource Section" below. None of these can be said to have arisen because of the Web, nor was their initial focus on Web resources. Linked sites have been individually evaluated by the editorial staff, and references to them have been carefully validated and annotated, for ready reference. The database also includes over 6,100 bibliographies, 1,000 tables, approximately 3,000 illustrations, 830 geopolitical and historical maps (color), and approximately 270 flags (color).Generally speaking, a blog consultant will analyze your blog and provide suggestions to help you improve it. They may look at the design, content, or your blog strategy. Generally, large organizations hire market researchers for this job because it is very systematic and needs a vast knowledge of statistics and marketing. As you go with market research, you will know your competitors, the current industry situation, nature and quantity of demand. Generally the common language of web services is XML (Extensible Markup Language), but this is not guaranteed, and proprietary variations abound.Perhaps even 10 or 20 times this figure, before businesses can really see the benefits of paying to advertise. Personally, I have some sympathy with developers of 'social media-rich' websites (which I'll categorise as being 'Web 2.0') in that it's quite difficult to find the right balance between accessibility and making the site appealing to a mass audience. However, I'm not sure that vendors/developers do enough to ensure that they have catered for the disabled minority.

Cold Case - Phoenix And The Outlook For Life On Mars

The Phoenix Mars Polar Lander is slated to land on Mars' north pole on May 25th - very soon now! Phoenix is intended to look for signs of microbial life, and there's a case that evidence may be found on Mars. The first piece of evidence is purported microfossils found in an Antarctic meteorite in 1997 - this Shergottic meteorite ALH84001, estimated to be 4.5 billion years old, is still the subject of some controversy. There are some who say that the micro structures are evidence of biotic contamination from its long tenure on Earth, others maintain hope that it's evidence of a link to life on the Mars.Martian life has a long held a fascination for astronomers - for one, it's a bright object in the sky, and for two, after the development of the telescope in the 1600s, it showed the most obvious color changes of any object in the sky. From Schiapiarelli to Lowell to Wells, the prospect of Martian life has held the imagination, even as the scientific evidence mounted that such life would be nothing at all like we'd expect. The case for life on Mars is reinforced by the exposure of bacteria on Lunar missions - samples went out, and came back, and were able to survive the harsh Solar and Van Allen radiation belts - even some of the plasma and thermal changes of reentry through the Earth's atmosphere. So life is remarkably hardy and capable of surviving in the vicious environment of space. Achaeobacteria and tube worms living on volcanic vents show that life can survive and thrive wherever there's a source of energy to exploit, even down in the depths of the ocean where sunlight isn't even a memory. However, the question of life on Mars has a few more complications. For one, it's a cold case -whether there was life in the past, Mars' surface conditions have changed over the last 5 billion years. There are definite epochs in Martian geology (called areology), where Mars speculation shows Mars having a thicker atmosphere than now, and receding (and advancing) surface water levels. Mars' current climate cannot support liquid water on the surface - the temperature is too low, and the atmospheric pressure is too low; if you took a tray of ice cubes out on the surface, they'd slowly evaporate by sublimation, the way dry ice does on Earth. What caused these changes in Martian climate? Plate tectonics, or rather, the lack of them. Earth's biosphere is driven in large part by plate tectonics, which serve to bury carbon (in the form of limestone) caused by sedimentation. The driving force on plate tectonics is the decay of radioactive elements in the Earth's core.Venus also shows evidence of having had plate tectonics in the past; its plate tectonics appear to have stopped due to the lack of water in the subsurface crust - the water in the oceans is far from being the majority of it on the planet; most of the rest is seepage down into the Earth's mantle, where it acts as a lubricant. On Mars, due to short range radio surveys by the Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter, we now show that Mars' crust isn't as flexible as Earth's - it's not being pressed down as much as it should be by the mass of the Martian polar ice cap. This is indicative that Mars is tectonically dormant. Why does tectonic dormancy matter for the case for life on Mars? Tectonic activity is the likely driving energy source for any Martian microbes out there, and it's the only candidate presently known to make long standing seeps of liquid water, which is necessary for life as we know it.Phoenix will be landing at the Martian north pole to give us some answers - but even if it finds nothing, there's no reason to give up hope. Mars has a surface area equal to all of Earth's dry land put together. Phoenix will only be able to sample an area comparable to a ring of soil around an office cubical.Phoenix' other mission profile is to give climate data on Martian weather patterns and observational data on the polar winter, and it's slated to provide data for at least six months, with optional extensions for years. (The Spirit and Opportunity rovers are now approaching the fourth anniversary of the beginning of their 90 day survey...)Phoenix live commentary from NASA begins at at 3:30 pm USA Pacific time on the 25th as the craft prepares for its decent into the Martian atmosphere, or about 9:30 on the morning of the 26th for Eastern Australia.

Platform Lifts And How They Provide Independance

Platform lifts are a method of access for wheelchair users that want to gain access to a building or reach a different floor of a building. As the title suggests they are designed to be a platform onto which the wheelchair user can wheel onto and then be raised to another floor level. For wheelchair users it can be extremely frustrating to be denied access to a building because of the lack of a suitable lift. Places that offer adequate access for disabled users provide a level of freedom that is invaluable to a disabled person. Not being able to have access to a building can be a real source of anxiety and as a result the government have acted fast to provide disabled access lifts in building such as libraries and they have also put legislation in place to make disabled access compulsory in most workplaces and in most public access buildings such as cinemas. Things are finally looking up for people that need to sue a wheelchair to get around and fortunately the government look set to make further strides in the coming years.WheelchairsWheelchairs are designed to make the user as independent as possible. The wheelchair has been in use for a number of years and since wheels were first added to a dining chair they have gone through a number of different modifications to improve them. The early examples of wheelchairs were relatively primitive but nowadays wheelchairs are no longer modifications of chairs but rather they are built bespoke to the needs of wheelchair users. There are a number of different types of wheelchair and these different types of wheelchair generally fall under two different categories; manual wheelchairs and electric wheelchairs. Motorised wheelchairs can generally be propelled by a engine that is controlled by the wheelchair user using a joystick. It generally doesn't require a great deal of physical exertion from the wheelchair user and as a result is a very useful piece of equipment for people with limited upper and lower body movement. These types of wheelchairs are used by people that have very little movement and they are also used by people with mental disabilities. The majority of manual wheelchairs are designed to make the most of the effort that is exerted by the wheelchair user. These wheelchairs are generally propelled by the user and the major design benefit of these is the large rear wheel which is designed to provide the maximum amount of output for the effort that is put in. The manual wheelchair has an oversized rear wheel that provide the propulsion and two small front wheels that are used primarily to balance the wheelchair. The large rear wheel is big enough that the user can place his or her hands on the wheel and turn it manually. The added bonus of this oversized wheel is that is can enable the wheelchair user to perform a wheelie. As well as being pretty impressive the wheelie also enables the wheelchair users to climb pavements without help from another person.

The Working Of Microwave Oven

Microwave radiations are the basic tool applied by microwave ovens or microwaves to cook or heat the desired food stuff. The scientific formula used to achieve this process is simple. The microwave radiations usually are emitted by magnetrons. The polarized molecules such as oil, water, fat and etc., within the respective food stuff are excited to produce heat. The uniform excitation leads to the simultaneous and complete heating of the food stuff. Heating food quickly and efficiently has been epitomized by microwaves. The art of food preparation has been revolutionized by microwave ovens since their inception into the market in the 1970s. First introduced to the world by Percy Spencer, while in the midst of building magnetrons for radar sets, microwave ovens have since then taken the world by storm. The microwave oven cooked its first food as popcorn and later came the egg. Raytheon, the company for which Spencer had been working on with the radar sets and had discovered the microwave phenomenon, filed a patent on 8th October, 1945. They came out with the first official microwave oven, the Radarrange. It was huge, consuming almost 3000 watts and weighing almost 340 kg. Later on commercial models were introduced that consumed about 1600 watts and sold for around $2000 to $3000. The first popular and home model was produced by Raytheon again. The countertop Radarrange in 1967 was priced at $495 and was the initiators of the popular microwave oven models in use today. By 1975, sales volumes for microwave ovens went up to 1 million, but were less than Japan. Here cheaper building methods led to extensive market penetration for the home models of microwave ovens. The rapid decline in the price of the microprocessors with the arrival of the technological revolution in the 1980s led to microwave ovens being a regular fixture in all US households as well as in the rest of the world. Today as 90% of the US households own a microwave oven, the Chinese firm Galanz is the biggest player in the microwave oven market, accounting for up to 40% of the global microwave oven market. The microwave actually consists of these constituents: high voltage transformer, the source path of energy to the magnetron; cavity magnetron; magnetron-control circuit along with a microcontroller; waveguide; cooking chamber for the food stuff to be placed in.Microwaves cook food from the outside itself, contrary to popular belief that food is cooked `inside out` here. Microwaves are absorbed by the food stuff as from any other conventional heat sources. The penetrative power of microwaves is the only differentiating factor here. They have several power levels to choose from that allow the depth and extent of heating that the food stuff is assumed to be supposed to undergo. Convection ovens have nowadays gained popularity. These are a mix of standard microwave and a convection oven, allowing food to be cooked yet be crispy and brown as in convection ovens. Microwave ovens are usually used for time efficiency and yet quality cooking in households as well as industrial applications. Even though microwave radiations are not considered injurious to health and are better than conventionally cooked food, there are still security issues with the conventional microwave oven. At times, liquids and improper heating or faults with the magnetron tube may cause bursts and resultant burns. Some also have issues with being exposed to microwave radiations. But apart from all these factors, microwaves are not only safer than normal cooking methods, the food cooked by them is considered healthier too. And hence, the popularity of the microwave oven has not dwindled but is only soaring upwards with the progression of time.

A Look At How VoIP PBX Works

It's not a surprise that Voice-over-Internet-Protocol (VoIP) has become a great asset to many people around the world. There are all sorts of reasons to use VoIP and it is becoming like a wave for the Internet world. One product that has come out of the VoIP revolution is the VoIP PBX. In order to understand just how VoIP PBX works it is also important to first understand what it really is and how it helps.Small-to-medium sized businesses are the main benefactors from VoIP PBX technology, but of course large-scale businesses also can take advantage of this technology. What this system is, though, is basically a system that routes incoming telephone calls to one external phone line that can switch the connection between various other phones in the building or office. At this point you may be thinking that this technology is nothing new because standard businesses have used PBX (Private Business Exchange) technology for many years. This is true, however, VoIP technology allows businesses to use the tool of the internet in order to do the same thing. Instead of paying on a per-minute basis or being afraid that they'll go outside of their calling area or minutes allotted, businesses are able to pay flat fees for these types of VoIP services.Essentially, having a VoIP Private Business Exchange (PBX) is probably one of the best things a small-to-medium sized business can invest in in order to not only save money, but also to help their employees. The reason that a VoIP PBX system is less expensive and more cost-effective for a small business is because incoming calls to the business are routed to that single external line first, which is actually connected to the internet. This is where VoIP technology and the software for the PBX come in.Instead of sending data-packets of information over the internet, VoIP technology sends voice-packets, allowing the caller on the other end and the people inside the business office to talk to each other. Furthermore, a VoIP PBX is mainly software controlled, meaning that individual employees can be added and deleted with ease and calls can be transferred as easily as any other landline telephone PBX system. Many businesses might think, however, that a VoIP PBX service may be too unreliable or it might not deliver all the calls that come to the business on a daily basis. However, small and large businesses and offices are able to take advantage of the VoIP PBX services. This business system allows all calls to be handled and all employees to be reached through one single telephone number as well as many other different features as well. For example, voice messaging is allowed through VoIP PBX technology as well as call-waiting and automatic call distributions. Phone extension numbers can even be used to reach individual people and employees in a business so that customers don't have to wait while their help is found. All in all, the functionality of a VoIP PBX technology is not only worth it for any type of business in the long run, but is definitely a more cost-effective way to handle daily phone calls to and from the business or organization. They are one-time costs associated with a VoIP Private Business Exchange system, such as the software to manage the PBX, but the benefits of it all definitely outweigh whatever is paid.

Access the Internet With a Web Proxy

A web proxy or proxy server (also called web site anonymizers) are servers that can be remotely accessed via the Internet. They have their own IP address and they can be used to anonymously browse the internet. Your computer connects to the proxy server and the proxy server then connects to the other websites, thereby protecting your IP address and other private information. You can access and interact with the web site normally as if you are directly browsing the website. A web proxy works by intercepting connections between sender and receiver. By blocking direct access between the client and the server, proxy servers make nearly impossible for hackers to get your IP address and other private details. One of the main uses of web proxies is to bypass filters or firewall. Using a proxy is the fastest and most reliable technique to access sites that have been blocked by your workplace or school's filter. The easiest way to find a proxy is to head to http://www.tech-faq.com/proxy-sites.shtml Select any of the proxy and check if you are able to access it. If you are able to access the proxy site, make sure you bookmark it in your browser.

The Limitations of Virtual or Shared Hosting

When someone decides to start a blog or to simply create a family website it is very common for the person who is in charge of running the site to do some research about companies which provide a computer capable of serving web pages to visitors, most people don't need to use a lot of bandwidth or applications in order to do what they want to do so they end up signing up for a virtual or shared hosting deal.Virtual hosting has become very popular because of its price, some may even start at $1.99 per month however, in this case you do get what you pay for, don't misunderstand this last phrase, price is no indication of the quality of a web host but considering the price it would be helpful for you not to have high expectations. Normal virtual hosting prices range from seven dollars all the way to $19 a month, this depends on the features that you will be using and the extras that you decide to sign up for, for most people the starter package will be just fine. After you have started using a virtual server you will gain some information and knowledge about hosting a general, a virtual hosting account is basically an account which has been created on a web server which also hosts many other sites just like yours, this might not sound like something negative however, it can turn out to be just that. When you share a computer with several other websites you are basically sharing the same system resources so if the machine only has 1 GB of RAM if you install a script which uses 500 MB of RAM the other 50 sites which might be sharing the same environment will be affected because your site is already consuming half of the system resources.Virtual accounts are normally advertise using phrases such as "unlimited bandwidth, high storage capacity, unlimited databases, etc.' however, all of these unlimited features are regulated by the amount of system resources your website will use, if the scripts that you are running start to affect the performance of the other sites which are hosted at the same environment your account may get deactivated or your site might go down taking the entire server with it. In a nutshell, this is the most common limitation that virtual hosting accounts have.
